The Department of Film and Media presents a retrospective on the 10th anniversary of the founding of Medusa, an Italian film company that produces and distributes films from around the world. This selection of 14 Italian films associated with Medusa provides a window onto contemporary Italian culture. Filmmakers whose work will be screened range from comic masters Giovanni and Giacomo Alto (Three Men and a Leg) to the incomparable dramatist Bernardo Bertolucci (Besieged) as well as from young talents such as Ferzan Özpetek (His Secret Life), Gabriele Muccino (One Last Kiss), and Davide Ferrario (After Midnight) to award winners like Giuseppe Tornatore (The Legend of 1900). In addition to financing Italian filmmakers, Medusa has assisted in the funding of films by directors such as Woody Allen, Robert Altman, and Roman Polanski. All films in Italian with English subtitles except where noted.
Organized by Mary Lea Bandy, Chief Curator, Department of Film and Media, and Mario Sesti, historian and film critic.
With special thanks to Medusa, Rome, for the gift of prints.
