1943. USA. Directed by Lewis Milestone. Screenplay by Lillian Hellman. With Anne Baxter, Dana Andrews, Walter Huston, Erich von Stroheim. Superb battle scenes (Milestone had directed the classic World War I film All Quiet on the Western Front) document the Russian war effort. The film would later run afoul of Cold War politics, and an eviscerated version was rereleased in 1957 as Armored Attack. 105 min.
