La vida loca
2008. Mexico/Spain/France. Written and directed by Christian Poveda. Poveda’s exceptional documentary passionately denounces the terror and violence perpetrated by El Salvador’s brutal street gangs, with especially disturbing footage of the rival Mara 18 and Mara Salvatrucha gangs. The filmmaker was assassinated on September 2, 2009, while shooting a sequel to La vida loca in La Campanera, a gang-ridden slum close to San Salvador. In Spanish; English subtitles. 91 min.
