Bookstores, Book Distributors, and Libraries

Titles published by The Museum of Modern Art are generally sold to the trade (bookstores and libraries), at a trade discount, through its distributors. Many paperback catalogues and some other titles are NOT available to the trade and are exclusively available through The MoMA Bookstore, MoMA Mail Order, and The MoMA Online Store at retail prices. Each title that is exclusively available through MoMA outlets is so marked on the Complete List of Recent MoMA Titles. Other nonexclusive titles are available to the trade through a network of distributors. New or recent trade titles, as available, are distributed to the worldwide trade principally by two distributors, one foreign and one domestic.

Course Adoption Copies

In support of the Museum educational mission, The Museum of Modern Art encourages classroom and course adoption of MoMA Publications. For information on availability of books for course adoption, professional educators should contact the appropriate distributor (domestic or foreign) for your geographic location. Each specific distributor reserves the right to set course adoption policy and will consider requests for advance/review copies from educators on a case-by-case basis.

If your selection is available through a distributor, trade accounts must order directly from the distributor. The Museum does not distribute to or offer trade discounts to bookstores, libraries, or any trade accounts.

If your selection is ONLY available through the Museum, orders can be placed through Museum Mail Order at retail price, prepaid including shipping cost. The Mail Order department will furnish pro forma invoices on request.

Domestic Trade Distribution

Most in-stock MoMA titles are available TO THE TRADE in the United States and North America through D.A.P./Distributed Art Publishers in New York. Please verify availability and order your selections directly with D.A.P.

As of July 1, 2002, D.A.P. is the new domestic trade distributor of MoMA publications. Previously, certain MoMA titles were distributed to the trade by Harry N. Abrams, Inc. With the change in distribution to D.A.P, certain Abrams ISBN numbers that appeared on MoMA publications are being phased out and replaced with the MoMA ISBN. The Complete List of Recent MoMA Publications reflects the correct MoMA ISBN for each title. Books-in-Print (www.booksinprint.com) has been updated to reflect this change. The previous Abrams ISBN is linked directly to The Museum of Modern Art, providing the correct distributor for each book. This referral will remain in place through the transition to D.A.P. and until we have phased out all old ISBN numbers.
